Multi-award winning workplace
8 April 2010
Greenslopes Private Hospital has once again been recognised for its health and wellbeing strategies when it was announced the winner of two outstanding national HR Awards in the space of a few weeks.
The Martin Seligman Award for Health & Wellbeing was awarded at the AHRI (Australian Human Resources Institute) National Awards held in Melbourne in November.
Up against some strong competition in this category including IBM and Hydro Tasmania, GPH was successful in winning over the judges including leading international psychologist and founder of the positive psychology movement, Martin Seligman.
The award recognised outstanding initiatives and strategies promoting the health and wellbeing of employees in the workplace.
Director of Hospital Support Services, Robin Copeland said that the judges commended GPH on the quality and strength of the submission, particularly the demonstration of program outcomes and its integrated and holistic approach, and how Greenslopes had demonstrated an outstanding commitment to understanding employees’ health and wellbeing needs and provided innovative, highly targeted and accessible initiatives.
“We are committed to providing an extensive range of flexible work practices and wellbeing options including an Employee Assistance Program, gym, child care on site, many professional development opportunities, external education grants and scholarships for staff, staff recognition and rewards system, paid maternity leave provisions, support for financial wellness, a subsidised staff bistro providing healthy meal options, internet access via personal workstation or bistro IT booths,” Robin said.
This follows GPH’s other recent success at the HR Leadership Awards, winning the health and wellbeing category for the third time (2006/07/09). This award recognises organisations that have adopted a proactive approach to promoting their employees’ health and wellbeing and assisting them to attain a better balance between career and personal life.
Hospital CEO, Richard Lizzio said that he was thrilled that Greenslopes had won this award for the 3rd time in 4 years.
“Everyone should be very proud of this achievement and winning the award yet again is indicative of the positive wellness culture that has been created at GPH,” Richard said.
“Congratulations should go to everyone who contributes to these innovative and successful health and wellbeing initiatives including staff that participate and take advantage of these programs.”
“The benefits of these initiatives for GPH employees include improved health and wellbeing, job satisfaction, work life balance, productivity and financial literacy and retirement planning. In turn this results in greater staff satisfaction and is supported by our increasing retention rates.”
“Overall, we were recognised for our holistic approach with a focus on physical and psychological health, work/life balance and financial wellbeing”, Richard said.
In what could be a trifecta, GPH has also been announced as a finalist in the Australian Government National Work Life Balance Awards (previously National Work and Family Awards which GPH won in 2005).
The above achievements haven’t gone unnoticed, with GPH receiving a letter from the Prime Minister, The Honourable Kevin Rudd MP, congratulating GPH on their achievements, and stating this was evidence of GPH’s value to the local community.
