Construction commences on child care centre

Construction of the Greenslopes Private Hospital’s 75 place, six room onsite child care centre has commenced and is on schedule for completion in December 2004.

The child care centre is being built on the car park lot facing Denman Street, and has been designed in response to the needs expressed by the Hospital’s workforce.

Flexibility in the size of the rooms is a key feature of the centre, which will enable the number and composition of age groups to be structured to suit the needs of the staff and children. As such, the centre will include a double nursery, which is able to provide care for up to 16 babies at any one time and multiple options to provide care for up to 35 children under the age of three, and 24 children aged between three and five years.

The proposal for onsite child care has been on Greenslopes’ agenda for more than18 months and is intended to assist the Hospital’s already successful recruitment and retention campaign.

It will also be an additional element in the Hospital’s employer of choice strategy, following the launch last year of a new gymnasium and Wellness Centre for staff.

A register of interest for staff who may be looking to utilise the facilities of the child care centre is being created so that information can be forwarded regarding the development and construction of the centre.
