Dr Michael Hatzifotis is a General Surgeon with additional training in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and bariatric (weight loss) surgery.

Following his training in General Surgery in Queensland, he gained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008. Following this, he completed three further years of training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Whilst training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital as the laparoscopic hepato-pancreato-biliary Fellow, Dr Hatzifotis was also appointed as the bariatric surgical Fellow.

He has an interest in all aspects of general surgery, and is very happy to provide a comprehensive general surgical service. He performs a broad spectrum of laparoscopic procedures, including inguinal hernia repair, cholecystectomy and common bile duct exploration, splenectomy, laparoscopic fundoplication and hiatus hernia repair, gastric resections, adrenalectomy, and colonic resections. He also perform laparoscopic pancreatic and liver resections. 

Other interests include bariatric surgery where he offers a comprehensive service to patients interested in weight loss surgery. He performs laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, and roux-en-Y gastric bypass

Dr Hatzifotis is currently also working at the Princess Alexandra Hospital as the Director of the Acute Surgical Unit, and Director of Trauma Services.
