In memory of Mrs Jean Pockett
Dec 14, 2018
In memory of Mrs Jean Pockett Mrs Jean Pockett, a WW1 widow who made a significant contribution to Greenslopes Private Hospital, has passed away aged 96.
Jean volunteered as a hospital visitor for more than 40 years and was a member of its Ex Service Organisation committee. She was also a founding Board Director of the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation (GMRF), based at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
Jean was a member of the War Widows Guild Queensland and it was a privilege to welcome her to Greenslopes Private Hospital’s Anzac Day Dawn Service each year. In 2015, she was one of 10 WW1 widows who travelled to Gallipoli as guests of the Australian Government for the Anzac Day centenary.
Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Jean will remember her resilience, determination, dry sense of humour, and dedication to both Greenslopes Private Hospital and the GMRF.
She passed away peacefully on 20 October 2018 and was farewelled at the Mt Thompson Memorial Gardens and Crematorium.
