GPH News Spring 2014

GPHnews 3 A final word from the CEO Welcome to the last edition of GPH News for 2014 and my last edition as CEO of Greenslopes Private Hospital as soon I will be leaving Greenslopes to take up my new appointment as CEO of Ramsay Health Care UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Greenslopes Private and am very proud to have worked with some many wonderful people and be a part of the unique culture of the hospital. The Greenslopes Private team have achieved many great things over the last three and half years and it has been a privilege to be part of an organisation that is so passionate about providing great quality care and service to every patient. In terms of what is happening in the hospital, I am delighted to announce two major milestones for GPH. Firstly there is the opening of our new inpatient paediatric service in November. With the success of our maternity service that opened just under two years ago and a growing number of paediatricians based on campus it seemed an appropriate time to launch this new service which will cater for a range of medical and surgical paediatric services. Equally exciting is that we are in the final stages of proceeding with developing a radiation oncology service onsite at Greenslopes Private which we expect to be operational by this time next year. This has been in the pipeline for several years and will be a state of the art facility. Whilst these are very different, both complete the vast array of services we already offer. I would like to recognise Cardiologist, Dr Karen Phillips who recently performed the 100th watchman implantation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation since undertaking the first procedure here at GPH in 2009. Dr Phillips is internationally renowned for her work in this area and recently presented at the European Societies of Cardiology in Barcelona. Karen’s experience and expertise combined with Greenslopes Private being one of the highest volume WATCHMAN™ centres in the country, provides for world class care for patients undergoing this procedure. We are very pleased to now be able to offer couples with infertility access to the latest technology which has been acquired by Assisted Conception Australia (ACA) based at Greenslopes Private Hospital. ACA is the first clinic in Queensland to have an Embryoscope. This allows for the growing embryos within a microenvironment with reduced toxins and optimises conditions for the beginning of human life. With the worldwide attention on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, GPH has been working to follow Qld Health and public health protocols to ensure we have all our processes in place in the event that they are needed. So to conclude, I would sincerely like to thank all GPs and Specialists who have supported GPH during my time here. And finally my very best wishes to you all for a safe and merry Christmas. Best wishes, Mark Page Chief Executive Officer Greenslopes rates highly in HCF survey HCF has recently released survey results for their Hospital Patient Experience Survey for admissions during calendar year 2013. Patients rated Greenslopes highly across a range of areas with exceptional results related to the care provided by doctors and nurses. Specifically our teams received very high ratings (up to 97%) for the following: • How often doctors and nurses treated patient with courtesy and respect. • How often doctors and nurses listened carefully to patient. • How often doctors and nurses explained things in a way patient could understand. It is very pleasing to note that 76% of all patients surveyed rated Greenslopes Private Hospital 9 or 10/10 for likelihood of recommending our hospital to a friend or colleague.
