Introducing our specialists Dr Lucy Burr Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Physician 14 GPHnews Dr Lucy Barr completed her medical degree at Kings College London in 2003 prior to moving to Australia. She has worked in the Northern Territory and South East Queensland, settling in Brisbane to complete her specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep medicine (2012). She is currently undertaking a PhD in P.aeruginosa and bronchiectasis with the University of Queensland. Dr Burr is particularly interested in respiratory infectious diseases but also asthma and COPD as well as sleep medicine, with a focus on obstructive sleep apnoea management. She is fully trained in bronchoscopic procedures as well as endobronchial ultrasound. Dr Burr is also a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland where her passion for teaching is fulfilled. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Queensland and completed specialist training at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane and Cairns Base Hospital with additional experience in outreach specialist medicine. She has held senior appointments in medical registrar training, RACP Fellowship examinations and as an Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland. She has trained at every tertiary hospital in southeast Queensland from the Mater Mothers’ to the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and the newly tertiary Gold Coast University Hospital. Shian is particularly interested in the process of ‘normal’ birth and strongly advocates patient choice for their pregnancy and delivery. She also believes there is still a strong demand for general gynaecology in addition to subspecialist gynaecology services. Shian has a special interest in colposcopy, probably stemming from her undergraduate years studying microbiology. He completed his postgraduate Neurology training in Queensland at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s and the Gold Coast University Hospitals. He was awarded the RBWH Foundation Research Scholarship. He received project grants for his research project on Quantitative EEG in Stroke from the National Stroke Foundation and the RBWH Research Foundation. Dr Sheikh did his MBBS from the King Edward Medical College, Pakistan. He was recipient of the Government Merit scholarship throughout his undergraduate degree. He also holds a Bachelor in Basic Medical Sciences. While he is interested in all areas of clinical neurology, his key areas of expertise include clinical neurophysiology (nerve conduction studies and electromyography for neuromuscular disorders) and hyper-acute stroke care. He also takes a keen interest in headache disorders including botulinum toxin treatment for migraine, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.
