GPH News Winter 2015

GPHnews 3 A word from the CEO Tim Daniel I am delighted to welcome you to my first edition of GPH News as CEO of Greenslopes Private Hospital. I write this looking back over my first six months and it has certainly been a busy and exciting time. Given the size of this amazing hospital, it is hardly surprising that I am still making my way around to meet all the specialists and staff that work here. But I am very much enjoying the positive environment and culture that make GPH so unique. We are investing in more parking onsite with an additional 140 car parks due for completion by September. We appreciate the disruption experienced during construction with the closure of the existing Nicholson St car park but thank everyone for their understanding and look forward to things becoming a little easier in the next few months. ...we continue to work with our doctors to improve our services including offering the latest technology and techniques to our patients... I was honoured to have been part of the Centenary of Anzac Commemorations held in April. Firstly we celebrated with the Gallipoli Centenary Ball held on 18 April at Brisbane City Hall which was a major fundraiser for our Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation based here at the hospital. It was a spectacular event and raised close to $158,000 that will go directly to medical research. The second event was our Anzac Centenary Dawn Service and Breakfast which was held here onsite at GPH. I was truly humbled to see so many staff, doctors, volunteers and their families come together to help out with this event which I believe is one of the biggest community services in Brisbane. This year we had an estimated 3000 people in attendance for the service and then 1500 stayed on for the breakfast. Both these events are featured on page 8 and 9 of this edition. I have also been meeting with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Defence Force which remain an important aspect of business that we are committed to. We continue to work with our doctors to improve our services including offering the latest technology and techniques to our patients. Two of our leading cardiologists implanted a new subcutaneous defibrillator which is an exciting advancement for patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. Prostate cancer diagnostic services are growing from strength to strength at Greenslopes with the provision of a highly specialised prostate biopsy service using 3T MRI through our onsite provider Queensland X-Ray. Greenslopes Maternity has delivered just shy of 2000 babies as of end of June 2015. The service continues to offer a first class experience for parents and babies and in this edition we share a personal story about our special care nursery on page 7. Our paediatric services onsite continue to grow with more paediatricians and allied health practitioners basing themselves onsite. We are also admitting more and more paediatric elective surgery through our theatre complex which is great news for our surgeons and their patients who previously would have had to go to another facility. In future editions I look forward to sharing information about our expansion in robotic surgery and our progress with establishing radiation oncology onsite, along with some information about our hospitals Master Development Plan. Needless to say the future is bright for Greenslopes Private and I am truly honoured to have been given the opportunity to take the hospital into its next phase and to be working with you all. Best wishes Tim Daniel Chief Executive Officer
