Commemorating the Centenary of Anzac 8 GPHnews In April Greenslopes Private Hospital commemorated the Centenary of ANZAC with two major events, the Gallipoli Centenary Ball and the ANZAC Centenary Dawn Service. The first, the Gallipoli Centenary Ball, was the major fundraiser for the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation at Greenslopes Private Hospital. It was held on Saturday 17 April in the main auditorium at the beautifully restored Brisbane City Hall and was a full house with more than 700 guests. We were delighted to have Ramsay Chairman, Mr Michael Siddle and Ramsay Australia CEO, Mr Danny Sims amongst the VIP guests on the night. RSL Queensland announced a further $5 million in funding for the PTSD Initiative which will allow the research to investigate PTSD in contemporary veterans. Award-winning jeweller, John Calleija designed a unique hand crafted one off commemorative Poppy brooch in platinum and rose gold featuring a stunning hand-carved pink tourmaline, white diamonds, green tsavorite gemstone leaves and a rare Australian arygle pink diamond. John generously donated the brooch to the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation to raise funds through the silent auction. The brooch fetched an impressive $60,000 bid and was a significant contributor to the total $158,000 raised from the event, 100% of which will go directly to medical research.
