Breast care team grows It’s essential to have this full range of doctors involved to decide on the best care standards for each person... Breast surgeons Dr Domenika Turkiewicz, Dr Heidi Peverill and Dr Teresa Nano. greenslopesprivate.com.au | 5 Breast cancer patients now have greater access to a comprehensive range of personalised treatments, thanks to an expanding team of all-female surgeons at Greenslopes Private Hospital. Dr Domenika Turkiewicz, Dr Heidi Peverill and Dr Teresa Nano offer a leading breast cancer service with the ability to accommodate patients quickly, compassionately and collaboratively. “All women are different and may have a different approach or reaction to recommended therapies,” said Dr Turkiewicz. “I spend most of my initial consultations building an impression about their attitudes and this helps me to frame my recommendations for treatments. Some treatments can be optional and it is important to convey these appropriately so patients know they are unique and are not getting the one-treatment-fits-all approach. I am very big on discussing such issues.” Greenslopes’ breast cancer surgeons are part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team (MDT), which was one of the first of its kind to be set up in a private Brisbane hospital. The group is also comprised of pathologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and a breast care nurse. Dr Nano said they meet regularly to examine complex patient cases and create individualised treatment plans. “It’s essential to have this full range of doctors involved to decide on the best care standards for each person.” Dr Peverill said the MDT “ensures that patients’ wants and needs are clearly communicated between specialists so care can be uniquely tailored to every patient.” “When it comes to Greenslopes, I have huge confidence and satisfaction in knowing I can offer my patients the best level of care available anywhere.” The opening of a state-of-the-art radiation oncology service at Greenslopes Private Hospital this Autumn means breast cancer patients can access every aspect of their cancer care in one location. They will no longer need to travel to other sites to receive this key treatment. For more information about our Breast Cancer services, visit greenslopesprivate.com.au
