Top baby names of 2018
Greenslopes Private Hospital has revealed its most popular
baby names of 2018, with Charlotte topping the list for girls
and Oliver the number one choice for boys.
For the Top 10 Girls’ Names:
• Traditional names of Charlotte and Emily
both moved up the ranks in popularity
from #8 and #10 in 2017 to claim the top
two spots in 2018.
• Six names remained in the Top 10 Girls’
Names from last year: Olivia, Zara, Zoe,
Charlotte, Matilda and Emily.
• Four new names were added to the list:
Isla, Hannah, Mia and Piper.
These names replaced Addison, Ava,
Amelia, and Chloe.
For the Top 10 Boys’ Names:
• Preferences have virtually remained the
same for boys, with the top four names
remaining unchanged since 2017 - albeit in
a slightly different order.
• Five new names featured in the Top 10
Boys’ Names this year: Leo, Hugo, Finn,
Noah, and Harry. These replaced Charlie,
Liam, Thomas, Archer, and Ethan, which
did not feature in this year’s Top 10.
Maternity services manager Raechel Frost
said 2018 has seen both Harrison and
Harry in the top 10 boys’ names – perhaps
following a Royal visit by Prince Harry.
“The names Olivia and Oliver also continue
to both be popular choices among
Australian parents,” Ms Frost said.
“Overall it has been a big year for us at
Greenslopes Maternity. We celebrated our
fifth birthday and also our 5,000th birth in
the same month.”
Approximately 1,000 babies are delivered
and cared for each year with support from
experienced doctors, midwives, nurses and
staff at Greenslopes Private Hospital.

Helping feathered friends
A not-for-profit parrot sanctuary on the Sunshine Coast is
benefiting from a donation of supplies from Greenslopes
Private Hospital.
The operating theatre team has been providing Parrots in
Paradise with drapes, jugs, buckets, sponges, syringes,
table covers, and clean single-use instruments since
September 2018.
These items are used as drinking bowls, cage lining, toys
and first aid for the parrots.
