
High Achievers
at Greenslopes
Seven people have been recognised and celebrated for excellence in teaching
and professionalism at the annual Greenslopes Private Hospital and University
of Queensland “Greenslopes Clinical School Awards” for 2018.
The evening was presented by Professor Michael Whitby, Head of Greenslopes Clinical School,
and Dr Mellissa Naidoo, Director of Medical Services at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
Teacher of the Year - Dr Glen Wood, Urologist
This award is presented to the teaching doctor who receives the
highest number of quality/positive comments from their students.
Dr Glen Wood received this honour after being described as a
“very engaging”, “enthusiastic”, “encouraging” and “welcoming”
teacher who “always had time for the students”.
Medical student of the year - Anthea Gibbons
Anthea Gibbons received this award after achieving the
highest mark in the Year 3 Medicine Examination. Andrea
scored a 7 which is the highest grade possible and received the
highest percentage (93.6) out of all the students in 2018 for this
set of exams.
Intern of the Year - Dr David Lempert
Dr David Lempert was recognised for his clinical skills and high
level of professionalism displayed across the year. He was
actively engaged in the Greenslopes Private Hospital community
- specifically with the Medical Education Committee, providing
feedback and solutions on a variety of topics.
Registrar of the year – Dr Nathan Klose
This award recognises an exemplary registrar for both their
professional competence and broader contribution to patient
care and the hospital community. As a first year advanced
trainee in haematology, Dr Nathan Klose exemplified the Ramsay
Way and went the extra mile for his patients. He demonstrated
a can-do attitude, facilitated formal teaching sessions, and
volunteered his time for formal and information physician
education opportunities.
Resident of the year - Dr Heidi Shallow
Dr Heidi Shallow made a commitment to develop her skillset for
a career in emergency medicine. She was commended on her
ability to adapt to various sites, for her positive engagement, and
for her mature approach to communication.
Junior doctor Ramsay Way award - Dr Elvis Rapoo
This award recognises a junior doctor who embodies the
culture and principles of The Ramsay Way; somebody who
goes above and beyond to engage in hospital activities with a
caring, progressive, and positive attitude. Dr Elvis Rapoo was
nominated for putting patient care first and always applying
clinical guidelines.
Mentor of the year - Dr Gary Nielsen,
Orthopaedic Surgeon
This award recognises the important contribution a Visiting
Medical Officer makes in providing ongoing support, supervision
and wellbeing. Dr Gary Nielsen was described as a doctor who is
passionate about work and education, respectful to everybody –
especially patients, and a great role model.
