Volunteers caring for people

Our Mission Statement
Greenslopes Private Hospital Volunteers Services play an integral role in the care and wellness of patients through our Volunteer CARE Program, the Diggers Dozen, our Courtesy Bus Service, and Pastoral Care Volunteers. Volunteers at our hospital provide a highly valued extension to the clinical and medical care of our patients and the support of their families. Our volunteers strive to provide a positive experience for our patients and recognise diversity by treating all people with dignity and respect.

Greenslopes Volunteer Services welcomes and embraces Volunteering at our hospital. Our valued volunteer teams make a significant difference daily to our patients, their family and friends and staff. Our volunteers come from many backgrounds and walks of life, from students to retirees and we recognise and value every volunteer’s unique ability.

What we do
GPH Volunteering Services have many innovative and exciting programs for you to choose from.

CARE Volunteer Program

  • Providing companionship for patients and support for their relatives and friends
  • Providing hand and foot massage o Assisting patients packing up for Discharge
  • Escorting patients to Discharge Lounge
  • Providing Diversional Therapy in the form of crosswords, card and board games etc
  • Delivering and caring for flowers
  • Delivering scripts to pharmacy and picking up charts from X-ray
  • Taking patients referred by Physiotherapy Service on walks in ward
  • Escorting patients and visitors from main reception to appointment areas
  • Responding to pages from various areas of the hospital for deliveries or escorting
  • Operating a library service for patience
  • Providing a JP service for patients visitors and staff
  • Providing back up assistance to staff in the form of photocopying, collating, laminating etc.

GPH Express
A courtesy bus service run by volunteers 5 days a week from 6am to 6pm excluding public holidays. This shuttle service runs from the main entrance of the hospital to Greenslopes Bus station continuously throughout the day and to Coorparoo railway station between 10am and 2pm (booking required).

The Diggers

  • Fundraising for the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation through various fundraising events such as bookfests, Trash ‘N Treasure, raffles etc
  • Providing information and direction from designated information desks
  • Providing companionship and tea/coffee to relatives and visitors in the hospital clinics
  • Providing a book and magazine service to patients
  • Visiting patients
  • Providing administrative assistance such as preparation of mail outs and preparing patient record charts
  • Fundraising events such as bookfests, raffles etc for the veterans community

Courtesy Bus Service

  • Providing a free courtesy bus service for carers and visitors to and from the hospital. The service is provided in conjunction with RSL Sub Branches from across Brisbane who provide a fleet of volunteer drivers.

Pastoral Care

  • Volunteers from various denominations visit patients to attend to their pastoral needs.

You will be invited to attend a meeting with our Volunteer Services staff where we can discuss what role would suit you best.

Our volunteers are provided with orientation and on the job training by being matched with experienced volunteers on their first shifts. All volunteers attend a one day hospital orientation program. Training and information is continued throughout the year with regular meetings held for all volunteers.

Greenslopes Private Hospital values our volunteers as integral members of our team. Volunteers are provided with lunch and free parking. Every year the hospital hosts recognition events for our volunteers during National Volunteers Week in May and have a special celebration for our volunteers at Christmas.
