Greenslopes shows giving is best medicine
Greenslopes Private Hospital has
10 | GPH News – February 2018 received heart-warming letters from
several families following its annual
Christmas Appeal.
The festive season was a little merrier
for 135 children, 64 mothers and 22
fathers, who received thousands of
presents donated by hospital staff and
contractors.
Nurses, cleaners, cooks, midwives,
receptionists, builders and administration
workers were among the people
who bought gifts for a record 65
disadvantaged local families.
“On collection day the hospital foyer
was absolutely brimming with presents;
it was a truly amazing sight to see the
generosity of the Greenslopes team in
action,” said CEO Chris Went.
The hospital has been involved with the
Christmas Appeal in partnership with St
Vincent de Paul for 19 years.
“Christmas can be a difficult time of the
year so it is wonderful that we could
help to make it a special day for more
than 220 people,” said Nurse Unit
Manager Cath Stewart.
Trucks, utes and trailers were used
to transport the Christmas hampers
to St Vincent de Paul, where they
were sorted and distributed to the
corresponding families.

Program A Greenslopes Private
The Pharmacy Department at
Greenslopes Private Hospital has been
awarded accreditation with the Society
of Hospital Pharmacists Australia to
the first formalised hospital pharmacy
residency program in the country.
This is a structured and accredited
experiential learning program for
pharmacists, allowing them to
consolidate initial education and
training and progress the early career
practitioner towards advanced practice.
The Greenslopes Pharmacy Department
is only the second private hospital
pharmacy in Australia to become
accredited and offer this program.

committed we are to supporting our
staff and ensuring we continue to
provide the best care to our patients.”
Hospital urologist has
represented Australia
on the global stage in
the fields of men’s
health and prosthesis
reconstructive surgery –
at meetings in Asia
and Europe.
A/Prof Eric Chung was
invited to be on the faculty of the first
Asia Men’s Health Foundation training
course in Hong Kong.
“Together with three other faculty
members from the USA, we provided
didactic teaching, supervised cadaveric
anatomy dissection and proctored many
first prosthesis surgeries across major
hospitals in China,” said A/Prof Chung.
The urologist also took part in the
International Men’s Health Academy
program in Italy, where he performed live
penile prosthesis replacement surgery,
and spoke about advances in penile
prosthesis technology and techniques.

“The camaraderie and collegiate
partnership provided a fantastic
opportunity to exchange ideas and
innovative surgical techniques with
many European leading surgeons.”
A/Prof Chung said the experiences
highlighted how patients in Greenslopes
have access to world-class urologists
who have excellent academic
credentials and international profile.
“I had the opportunity to exchange
ideas and learn innovative surgical
techniques so that I can provide stateof
the-art surgical care and evidencebased
best practice medicine to
my patients.”
