Although we are approaching the end of 2017,
Greenslopes Private Hospital remains a hive of
activity as our dedicated teams continue to provide
excellent health care to our patients. I would like
to take this opportunity to reflect on a few of our
developments and share with you some new
additions.
We are pleased to introduce The Ramsay Rule
initiative which is being implemented across all
Ramsay hospitals in Australia.
This new system allows families to call for
assistance when there is concern about a patient’s
clinical condition, and helps to ensure we continue
providing the highest quality care. Please take a
moment to read the article below to familiarise
yourself with the three step process.
The Ramsay Rule is working extremely well in
conjunction with our recently launched Speak Up
For Patient Safety program, which escalates
awareness of patient safety and encourages staff
to challenge potentially risky behaviour.
On another note, a new state-of-the-art
PET/CT scanner has arrived at Greenslopes Private
Hospital. This equipment will give specialists
another important avenue for detecting and
monitoring conditions in their patients (p 3).

Work is also well underway on building the new
Nicholson Street Specialist Centre on the existing
hospital campus while also refurbishing the
Jessie Vasey Wing to create more single room
accommodation (see p 9). Both projects are due to
be completed during 2018.
In this edition of GPH News you will also find
information about our exciting new Sports Injury
Service which offers discounts and fast-tracks
treatment for eligible patients (p 7), a new CPR and
first aid course for babies and children (p 5), and a
fantastic effort by our staff who banded together to
raise $1,342.85 for the R U OK? Day charity (p 9).
As the countdown to 2018 is drawing closer,
I would like to wish you and your loved ones
a safe and happy holiday season.
Best wishes,
Tim

Greenslopes Private Hospital
Greenslopes Private Hospital has recently launched a new
initiative which provides patients and their families with the
steps to call for assistance or review when there is concern
about a person’s clinical condition.
When patients or their carers believe something is “not right”,
they can call for rapid assistance by following a three step
process:
1. Talk to the nurse, doctor or midwife
2. Ask to speak to the nurse in charge
3. Call 3394 7111 and ask for Ramsay Rule to be activated
The Ramsay Rule is being rolled out in all Ramsay hospitals
around Australia.
It is based on the REACH program developed by the Clinical
Excellence Commission and Ryan’s Rule developed by
Queensland Health.
