We’ve got your
back, hip, head,
shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist...
A new Sports Injury Service has opened at
Greenslopes Private Hospital, which offers discounts
and fast-tracked treatment for people who are injured
while playing or training for a recognised sporting
club or school.
The service can be accessed 24/7 at the hospital’s
Emergency Centre off Newdegate Street.
People can receive immediate clinical assessment,
initial treatment, imaging, and a referral to a specialist
if needed.
Emergency Centre Director, Dr Mark Baldwin, said
the move is a win for patients who will receive
streamlined specialised care from experienced
doctors and nurses.
“We wanted to make it even easier for patients to
access high quality treatment for their sports injuries.”
“Greenslopes Private Hospital is in an ideal position to
offer this integrated service with access to radiology
and pathology facilities right here on site.”
If a patient needs to see a specialist, Emergency
Centre staff will match them with an ideal doctor for
that particular injury (e.g. orthopaedic surgeon or
neurosurgeon).
“The benefit of having a wide range of highly trained
and skilled specialists all in one place is that we can
cater for all types of injuries – from the head to the
foot,” said Dr Baldwin.
Eligible patients accessing the Sports Injury Service
can receive a reduced out-of-pocket fee of $75 after
the Medicare rebate.
The fee includes plain X-ray and pathology but does
not include radiology services other than plain X-ray,
splints, crutches or pharmacy products. Patients must
also hold a valid Medicare card.
No referral or private health cover is required for
Greenslopes Emergency Centre visits.
Discounted fees apply to the Greenslopes Emergency
Centre only; normal fees and private health insurance
cover apply if visits result in admission to the hospital.
