2 | GPH News – May 2018
I am looking forward to bringing back
new skills and ideas to help make
Greenslopes Private Hospital the best
it can possibly be.
Our nurses and midwives are a brilliant group
of people who strive to do their best every day
of the year; we are lucky to have them. They
dutifully care for patients from newborns to
the elderly – and everyone in between. Their
expertise allows them to assist across an
immense array of specialties, and they make
up approximately half of all employees at
Greenslopes Private Hospital.
It is therefore fitting that we recognise their
efforts and achievements by celebrating them
on International Nurses’ Day (12 May) and
International Day of the Midwife (5 May). So,
if you see a nurse or midwife on these dates,
please join with me in saying thank you for the
work they do.
We also celebrate National Volunteer Week at
this time of year (21–27 May), which is a chance
for us to reflect on the wonderful and generous
contributions these men and women make to
our hospital.
In this edition of GPH News, we are excited to
share details about our new Ramsay Health
Plus outpatient service coming in July 2018,
which will allow access to quality allied health
services such as physiotherapy and speech
pathology (p11).
Patients now benefit from more single bed
rooms in the newly-refurbished Jessie Vasey
Wing (p7), while a new breast pump rental
service is also available to mothers from our
24/7 pharmacy (p7). Make sure you also read
about the outstanding achievements by some
of our doctors (p3, 6 and 9).
It was fantastic to see almost 2000 people who
gathered for our traditional Anzac Day Dawn
Service (p4). We were honoured to hear from
guest speaker David Dalziel, son of Victoria
Cross recipient Henry Dalziel, who fought
during World War I.
Finally, I am excited to be heading to the USA
through a “Chief Executive Women” scholarship
to complete a week-long course at MIT Sloan.
Entitled “Leading Change in Complex
Organisations”, the program is designed to help
senior executives harness leadership skills,
political resources and cultural understandings
to guide successful change. I am looking
forward to bringing back new skills and ideas
to help make Greenslopes Private Hospital the
best it can possibly be.
Best wishes,
Chris
