Greenslopes Private Hospital and TAFE Queensland developed a partnership in 2008 that lead to the delivery of an integrated and innovation Diploma of Nursing program.

The course is delivered theoretically and practically on campus at Greenslopes Private Hospital. The program enables you to put directly into practice what you have learnt in the classroom.

The course structure of a maximum of three days per week on campus and online learning offers you flexibility.

Greenslopes Private Hospital is a flagship hospital for Ramsay Health Care. It is renowned as a world class tertiary and teaching hospital and offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and day services across all adult specialities.

You will be required to attend theoretical classes at Greenslopes Private Hospital two days per week Mondays and Wednesdays, for the first 17 weeks approximately. After this, classes reduce to one day per week (Mondays). You will also be required to complete online self-directed learning. You will be required to attend 2 days of on the job placement per week which will be on either early shift (0700 – 1530hrs) or late shift (1430 – 2300hrs). The course requires approximately 440 hours of work placement. You will complete a minimum of 4 rotations throughout the hospital during your program allowing you a variety of ward and speciality based experiences. Greenslopes Private Hospital provides facilitators to support, mentor, guide and assess you throughout your placement.

Course commencement: 13th July 2020

Successful completion of the course will provide you with a nationally recognised qualification. Upon completion you may be able to apply for a one year direct credit in the Bachelor of Nursing programs offered by various universities.

Vocational placement will commence after the completion of the first 17weeks of classes and will require you to attend 2 days a week. These shifts will be a combination of early (7:00am to 3:30pm) and late shifts (2:30pm to 11:00pm). Students will complete all vocational placement requirements at Greenslopes Private Hospital. Students will be given an opportunity to put preferences in for placement days however must be aware that these are subject to change.

You will complete a minimum of 4 rotations through the hospital during your program allowing you a variety of ward and speciality based experiences.

Greenslopes Private Hospital provides facilitators to support, mentor, guide and assess you throughout your placement.

Uniforms are compulsory whilst on campus at Greenslopes Private Hospital. The indicative price is $124.00 which includes two (2) polo shirts and two (2) bottoms i.e. skirts/pants.

Entry requirements stipulated by TAFE QLD Gold Coast are:

  • All students will need to complete, prior to enrolment, a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) assessment and achieve a competency of at least Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both reading and numeracy. This is a requirement in accordance with TAFE Queensland and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).
    Prior to enrolment, students schooled outside of Australia must provide evidence of a formal English language test result, demonstrating they have achieved the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) specified level of English language skills.

The assessment must have been completed less than 2 years ago.

Formal English language tests are listed below, with their required outcomes to support enrolment:-

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – a minimum score of 7.0 overall and across each band
  • Occupational English Test (OET) – a minimum score of ‘B’
  • Pearson’s Test of English (PTE) - a minimum score of 65
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language / Internet-based test (TOEFL-IBT) – a minimum score of 94
  • Be a permanent resident of Australia (International visa holders will need to contact the International Student Centre to discuss eligibility on (07) 5581 8398)
  • Be prepared to participate in the allocated vocational placement
  • Have access to the internet and have an email account
  • Be prepared to undertake the GCIT 100 Point Identification Check prior to enrolment. All students will need to present original documentation to the value of 100 points. The Institute’s Customer Service staff will provide students with the necessary form to complete.

Entry requirements stipulated by the Greenslopes Private Hospital are:

  • Provide a cover letter explaining why you would like to undertake the Diploma of Nursing program and also address the below key elements
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and function effectively in a team
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Willing to embrace the values of the Ramsay Way
  • Provide evidence of being able to meet the English Standard Requirements as stipulated by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)

All applications will be reviewed and the candidates who meet the entry requirements will be offered an interview. After the interview and selection process is complete the successful candidates will be offered a place within the program.

**Students will be required to apply for a Federal Police Check and Blue Card (further information regarding this will be given at interview and upon enrolment). It is a mandatory requirement that all successful applicants submit a Federal Police Check and Blue Card prior to course commencement on the 13th July 2020 **

Applications close Friday 17th April. Applicants will be notified via email regarding their applications as to whether they have been successful or not in securing an interview. Interviews will be conducted early to mid-May.

The Course is run twice per year, with applications for the January intake opening in October and applications for the July intake opening in March.

    • Your reasons for wanting to undertake the Diploma of Nursing
    • Having good verbal and written communication skills
    • Possessing good interpersonal skills and functioning effectively in a team
    • Demonstrating commitment to ongoing professional development
    • Be willing to embrace the values of the Ramsay way
  2. A current resume outlining any previous employment, training, certificates achieved or work undertaken in a community/sport club.
  3. Applicants must provide two contactable work-related referees (must have worked in a role with a supervisory capacity to you)

Applications will be reviewed and you will be notified (after closing date) of your status and whether you have progressed through to the interview stage. Post interviews, we aim to notify applicants within two (2) weeks of the outcome.

Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing are required to apply for registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency). Upon graduation, students who successfully complete program are encouraged to apply for a position within the Graduate Program offered at Greenslopes Private Hospital however employment is not guaranteed.
