Outpatient Therapies and Classes

After an initial examination to assess your needs, your physiotherapist will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. A qualified physiotherapist is an expert in assessing someone’s ability to move and function effectively. They use scientific evidence to guide the examination and treatment of people with a wide range of conditions affecting muscles, joints, balance, coordination, the nervous system and your heart and lungs.

Physiotherapy treatment may include:

  • Strengthening and injury prevention exercises
  • Balance and coordination training
  • Stretches
  • Manual therapy (includes joint and soft tissue mobilisation)
  • Kinesiotaping
  • Education
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Return to sport/activity plans

Often, a combination of the above techniques will be required to help you achieve your goals. Your physiotherapist will continue to re-assess you throughout your treatment program, upgrading you along the way.

Lymphoedema is the accumulation of excessive amounts of fluid resulting in swelling of certain parts of the body (most commonly the arms and legs).

We have the capability to measure your limb volume and predict your chance of developing lymphoedema, using a simple measurement with our SOZO equipment. SOZO, is the world’s most advanced, non-invasive –Bio-Impedance Spectroscopy (BIS) device. It enables healthcare professionals to obtain a precise snapshot of fluid status and tissue composition in less than 30 seconds and detect very slight changes. This means that we are able to implement early preventative measures.

We offer Level 1 and 2 Accredited Lymphoedema Therapists at Ramsay Health Plus to assist with the following lymphoedema therapies:

  • Prescription and review of specialised compression garments
  • Lymphatic massage and education on self-massage techniques
  • Exercise prescription
  • Education on skin hygiene to prevent infection
  • Advice regarding nutrition and weight management
  • SOZO measurements

We provide education on stress management, relaxation and energy conservation, as well as ongoing care to ensure lymphoedema symptoms are well controlled.

Treatment can reduce lymphoedema symptoms and, in the long term, provide people with education and skills to help manage their lymphoedema in their daily life.

Healthy ageing is about optimising your opportunities for good health. It allows people to continue to participate in the physical, social and community-based activities they value most. Maintaining physical activity leads to better general health, a lower risk of falling, better cognitive functioning and a lower risk of developing a number of different diseases. Our aim is to provide you with the support and advice you need to maintain your physical functioning - or better still, improve it.

We offer a range of services designed to promote health ageing. You might choose a hydrotherapy session, a Tai Chi class, or perhaps an assessment with a physiotherapist to address the joint pain you’ve been experiencing recently. A reduction in your confidence to participate in certain activities need not be a long-term issue. Our team can discuss your individual circumstances, identify the issues that may be limiting you and develop a plan to help you regain your confidence and optimal function.
