Our skilled cardiac surgeons treat cardiovascular and cardiothoracic conditions using the latest technology and techniques available, setting key new healthcare benchmarks.
Greenslopes Private Hospital is one of Australia’s highest volume centres for the “Watchman” - a small implantable device designed to prevent stroke in patients with Atrial Fibrillation. The breakthrough procedure was performed for the first time in Queensland at Greenslopes in 2010, and has helped prevent strokes in thousands of people.
In another Queensland first, Greenslopes Private Hospital began offering the Carto 3D mapping and navigation system in 2005. It guides precise locations of catheter positions in patients with heart rhythm problems.
Our cardiologists also offer patients new subcutaneous defibrillators, which involve a less invasive procedure. The S-ICD is implanted just below the skin, while the lead is implanted along the breastbone (rather than through a vein and into the heart). This leaves the heart and blood vessels intact, and is performed on patients at risk of a sudden cardiac arrest.
