Dr Ferdinand Ong is a Specialist General Surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques. His areas of expertise include benign and malignant colorectal conditions, as well as general surgery pathologies. He also performs diagnostic and interventional endoscopy services (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Ferdinand is committed to compassionate, personalised care that meets each individual patient’s goals and needs.

Ferdinand obtained his Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine with Distinction at the University of New South Wales. He underwent advanced surgical training based in major Sydney hospitals and completed his fellowship in General Surgery. Subsequently, Ferdinand dedicated three years of sub-specialty colorectal surgical training through well-recognised, high-volume centres at St George Hospital and Gosford Hospital in NSW, and the Princess Alexandra Hospital in QLD. During this time, he obtained his Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA) and accredited by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA).

Throughout his career, Ferdinand has maintained a strong passion for education and research. He holds a senior lecturer position with the Griffith University medical school. He is actively involved in the teaching, supervision and examination of medical students and surgical trainees. Ferdinand has published widely in numerous international peer-reviewed journals, and presented at national and international conferences on his specialty field of colorectal surgery. 

Ferdinand is fluent in English and Cantonese Chinese.

Outside of surgery, he values the time he spends with his wife and young daughter. He enjoys basketball, tennis and gardening.
