Dr Simon West is a Specialist Gynaecological Oncologist with expertise in the surgical management of a wide range of gynaecological conditions, from benign disorders to complex cancers. He is among the few specialists in Brisbane with advanced training and accreditation to address the full spectrum of gynaecological conditions including malignancy. His expertise is complemented by a strong focus on optimising surgical outcomes for both patients and surgeons.
Simon's journey in healthcare began as a physiotherapist before he pursued medicine at the University of Sydney. After completing his early medical training at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, he embarked on specialty training, working across various hospitals in New South Wales. He earned his Fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2022. Recognized for his dedication and skill he was accepted into subspecialty training and became the inaugural accredited fellow of the Northern Sydney Gynaecologic Cancer Unit. Moving to Brisbane, he trained and practiced at the Mater Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, attaining subspecialist certification in Gynaecologic Oncology in 2024.
Simon has extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive gynaecological procedures. His background in physiotherapy has fostered a deep interest in enhanced recovery protocols, the non-surgical management of benign conditions, and comprehensive care for patients with pre-invasive diseases and gynaecological cancers.
