Dr Shaun McGrath graduated from the University of Queensland medical school, before completing his internship and residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2017, completing all his training in south-east Queensland.
He subsequently embarked upon subspecialist training to become a gynaecological oncologist, including time at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, and Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne. In 2021 he was awarded Certification in Gynaecological Oncology (CGO).
Since returning to Queensland in 2021 he has worked as a staff specialist in gynaecological oncology at Mater Hospital Brisbane, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service and Gold Coast University Hospital. He is involved in teaching fellows, registrars, residents and medical students, and contributes to research through the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer. Shaun is a member of the Queensland Cancer Control Safety and Quality Partnership and sits on both their Quality Assurance Committee and the Gynaecology sub-committee. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
Shaun has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, including the Da Vinci robotic platform, and pre-cancerous conditions of the genital tract. Shaun welcomes referrals for suspected or confirmed gynaecological malignancy, ovarian masses, pre-invasive gynaecological conditions as well as benign conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts and heavy menstrual bleeding.
