Interests: Open and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, hand surgery, arthroplasty of the upper limb and hand, peripheral nerve surgery and general orthopaedic trauma.

Dr Ridzwan Namazie is a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in hand and upper limb surgery.

Dr Namazie personalises treatment to suit the individual patient and takes a multidisciplinary approach to care; involving other doctors and allied health providers as appropriate.

Dr Namazie was awarded a full scholarship to study medicine at the National University of Ireland, Galway. After completing basic surgical training in Ireland, he was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. He then completed his advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery in New Zealand and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018. He worked briefly as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in New Zealand before pursuing sub-specialist fellowship training.

Dr Namazie has completed two Australian Orthopaedic Association accredited fellowships. The first was in Upper Limb and Hand Surgery at the Gold Coast University Hospital followed by a Shoulder Fellowship at the Australian Shoulder Research Institute, Brisbane. He also did an observership with Prof Alessandro Castagna at Istituto Clinico Humanitas, Milan, Italy.

Dr Namazie is actively involved in research, being currently appointed as Clinical Research Fellow at Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) in conjunction with the University of Queensland. He has won awards for research including most recently the Linscheid-Dobyns Excellence in Wrist Surgery Award in 2021 by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. During his time spent in fellowship he contributed to research at the Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research based at the Queensland University of Technology. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, presented at national and international meetings and published a book chapter.

Dr Namazie is actively involved in teaching both medical and allied health professionals. He regularly supervises orthopaedic trainees, junior doctors and medical students. Dr Namazie believes in contributing to the public health system and has a public appointment with Metro North Health working at STARS and Redcliffe Hospital.

Dr Namazie welcomes medical professionals and allied health staff to contact him directly for advice or to discuss patient care.
