After completing his MBBS, Dr Ashim Majumdar proceeded to National Institute of Mental Heath and Neurosciences, Bangalore, India, to complete his diploma in psychological medicine (DPM). Following completion, he joined the Guys Group of Hospitals in London to complete his training as a registrar in psychiatry and senior registrar in Mapperly Hospital in Nottingham. He obtained his MRC Psych. in 1976 and joined as a staff psychiatrist at Wolston Park Hospital in 1978/79.
Dr Majumdar worked as a community psychiatrist in Tasmania from 1980 to 1982. He completed the MRANZCP exam in 1981 and was awarded FRANZCP in 1983. Since 1984 he has been working as a private psychiatrist and is currently a visiting senior psychiatrist at Greenslopes Private and Mater Hospitals. He is a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland. Dr Majumdar is involved in teaching medical students and registrars, has published articles and is involved in research.
