Greenslopes Private Hospital offers easier access to allied health care

May 11, 2020

More than 350 patients have already used a new allied health clinic operating from Greenslopes Private Hospital.

Ramsay Health Plus Greenslopes was launched to provide more convenience for those requiring services such as physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and dietary assistance.

Ramsay Health Plus (RHP) incorporates chronic disease management programs, preventative health and wellbeing programs, allied health services for people who do not need to be admitted to hospital, and pre and post-hospital treatments for a range of conditions.

Acting Allied Health Manager, Pauline Teng, said: “We saw 45 patients in the first month and since then the monthly numbers have doubled.”

The clinic offers a range of different allied health services all in one location including:

- Physiotherapy
- Lymphoedema
- Exercise physiologist
- Occupational therapy
- Speech pathology
- Counselling
- Dietetics
- Men’s health and women’s health

The majority of the clinic’s customers have been patients receiving cancer treatment who have been referred to the service to access speech pathology and dietetics services.

“We are trying to create an environment, where patients feel at home, where all the allied health services they need are in one spot,” Ms Teng said.

Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Julian Lane, who performs hip and knee surgery at Greenslopes Private Hospital, said his joint replacement patients use the service.

“The clinic can help to explain how to prepare for the surgery through exercises, offering suggestions along with recommended useful devices. It prepares the patient both emotionally and physically,” Dr Lane said.

Patients can be referred by specialists as inpatients or through their GPs. They can even self-refer by calling the clinic direct.
