Patients at the heart of major makeover
May 10, 2017
Patients now have access to Queensland-first technology through the Philips Catalyst Upgrade Program at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
After undergoing a major makeover, one of the hospital’s cardiovascular suites is reopening this week.
The new AlluraClarity FD20 Lab now includes Queensland’s first Dynamic Coronary RoadMap.
DCM is an automatic, real-time dynamic navigational guidance tool designed to make Percutaneous Coronary Intervention procedures more efficient.
“The system overlays a highlighted coronary angiogram on a 2D fluoroscopic image, creating a coloured map that adjusts dynamically with the patients’ coronary rhythm, providing continuous and specific visual feedback on positioning of wires and catheters,” said Philips District Manager Queensland Andy Roost.

In another unique offering, the cardiovascular suite also has the state’s only StentBoost Live equipment.
SBL offers enhanced live visualisation to position and deploy balloons, stents and bio-resorbable vascular scaffolds. This reduces the overall procedure time and increases positive patient outcomes.
The lab also houses Clarity IQ – a dose reduction and image quality technology – which incorporates powerful state-of-the-art image processing, noise and artefact reduction, image enhancement and motion correction in real-time.
Finally, next generation image fusion technology VesselNavigator allows specialists to reuse 3D vascular anatomical information from existing CT, MRI or Rotational Angio datasets as a 3D roadmap overlay on a live X-ray image.
“This means we have an intuitive and continuous 3D roadmap to guide us through vascular and complex cardiac procedures. This reduces the need to give multiple contrast injections to the patient,” said Director of Cardiology Dr Narendra Kewal.
Greenslopes Private Hospital CEO Tim Daniel welcomed the arrival of the new Lab.
“This addition to our already comprehensive range of cardiac services ensures that our patients have access to first-class technology and techniques right here in Brisbane,” said Mr Daniel.
“From our dedicated cardiac area in our Emergency Centre, to acute diagnostic services and advanced cardiothoracic surgery, our doctors and nurses have the knowledge, equipment and experience to treat our patients’ conditions.”
